The guy makes blatantly false statements regarding reporting obligations for sales. I can't believe some of the things he says and I have to follow his orders and then by the time the mistake causes problems it blows up in my face and he distances himself and pretends he had nothing to do with it and drags you in front of upper management. Keep your documentation with this guy and ignore what he says about not talking to others. Share what he says because you will find he says different things to other people and is very inconsistent. It also helps protect you if others know what he is saying.

William has a tendency to tell you something is policy that isn't. He will also change his mind about what he wants to be done on audits and make you blow the statute of limitations because he wants you to reissue letters because he decided he didn't like the location code he told you 5 months ago and doesn't leave you hardly anytime to fix it. He also changes his mind about assignments and things you did last year when there was time to do them and reassigns them back to you because he changed his mind and wants you to redo it but now you don't have enough time to follow procedures. He doesn't own what he says so you need to document it in writing and go back and catalog your emails in case he gets you called in front of management or they ask why you are struggling to complete current tasks because you are working on old stuff.

Needs to communicate one consistent message and stop changing deadlines. Needs to not gaslight employees when they haven't been instructed in something. Needs to take responsibility and not move a deadline to the next day and assign 10 new audits that a trainee hasn't been trained on and expect them to issue letters and finish their IFTA audit by the next day. Needs to not assign level 3 audits to a level 1 auditor. Needs to stop worming his way out when the employee complains about the unreasonable and moving deadlines and then goes back to making up unreasonable deadlines after reporting the employee for something else and dragging them before management.
