The boss didn't care that the office manager severely restricted my responsibilities without his knowledge, that I was given no explanation, and that she made nasty comments to me all day long. He was afraid she'd quit after many years, so he let her make comments, restrict my learning, criticize me all day long, and be loud and aggressive. She became more controlling and restrictive as the months passed. The owner should have corrected her attitude from the beginning. No new hire wants to work with her. The owner should have trained an additional person at the same time. It's bad business to rely so heavily on one person, especially a person who creates a toxic environment. The owner will allow you to be verbally abused rather than regulate an employee's behavior. You have to stand up for yourself. Environments like this affect your whole life, mentally and physically.
