A disrespectful, overbearing, heavy-handed, pompous upper admin. She'd be well-placed as a higher up in a financial instution where all the big wigs are lunatics. Micromanages 3 and 4 levels below her to manipulate employees making 3 or 4 times less than her into work that's either meaningless or punitive. Or worse, she'll saddle subordinates several rungs down with work that advances her personal agenda so she can pad her resume and get her next job. Which she hasn't gotten yet, even though she's been trying to leave Auburn for the last 2 years at least. When you push back against her for any sane reason - not having the resources or manpower to do the job, being asked to do something that isn't relevant to your job, doing something that is outright counterproductive to your job - she manipulates performance evals to add so much to your plate that you either A) Kill yourself trying to do the stuff, B) don't get it done so your yearly raises or your job itself is in jeopardy, or C) buckle under the pressure and quit. There was a span of about 3 years where 8-10 people in depts under her chose to resign, retire early, or were fired. And this is a public university in a small town. People typically got on board and stuck around for a while because the benefits and lifestyle made it comfortable. But it's hard to enjoy those things when a maniac has control over you for at least 40hrs per week. OH, that's another thing: forget about work/life balance. She doesn't see any reason why everybody under her shouldn't be working weekends and evenings "to serve the students." It's never really about the students though. She was lobbied several times about increasing student wages so they wouldn't have to work multiple jobs. We're not talking a $15 minimum wage, we're talking going from $7.25 to $8/hr. She killed it immediately. Didn't have a problem spending hundreds of thousands on a "branding overhaul" for the division though. No, not for the school or the facility: the division. The essential services that students will use no matter what needed a new logo and some stationary, but the students themselves getting enough pay to eat well and work less? No way. And Auburn University isn't the innocent party either. Being a public university, they have some latitude in employment law that lets then get away with a little more than normal places would. They enable her to run things this way, even though they wouldn't dare let her move up. She's radioactive, but she also does their dirty work. And unless it resulted in major legal action against the university, they'll let her stick around until some other institution is stupid enough to pick her up. But she's also had racial discrimination claims levied at her directly, so she'd have to leave for a lateral move or a bigger job at a smaller place. It would kill her over-inflated ego to do that, but I doubt she'll have a choice. In summary, she's cold, overbearing, micromanaging, impersonal, and disrespectful toward subordinates. Out for her own advancement and either runs people into the ground or runs them away. Would fit in well at a fortune 500 with her professional exterior and faux-concern for employees, but she is a hideous mark on a family-friendly place like Auburn University. She's a very snazzy dresser though. Can't take that away from her.
