He does not know how to communicate or delegate properly , and he treats his counter staff and head baker like we are inferior because we’re females. This man should not be running a business.

Hafiz Rashid is one of the worst boss/managers I have ever had. He’s inconsistent and incompetent in all that he does. From leaving people alone with trainees, not knowing what is his own products are made with, afraid of customer confrontation, and much much more. He is a complete and utter piece of shit. He has made several staff cry with the things he puts them through on a day to day basis, including myself. He expects everything to be done for him but he fails to do the same for his staff. He is a sorry excuse of a human being and doesn’t care about his employees, just the money he is making. Not to mention he’s given over 500 dollars worth of free food to his mosque but limits product quantities for veteran establishments including American Legion. Please do NOT work for this man, save yourself from the dumpster fire that I wish I could’ve escaped from as soon as he started.

This individual can be good company in a personal setting, but unfortunately when you are an employee at Sweet Surrender you will see little of him as a person. Anything and everything is a cruel and awful business persona. Never have I met an individual who has asked someone to reschedule a surgery… until Hafiz. On multiple occasions myself and fellow workers at the counter were hounded by questions one would expect the owner of this business would know, such as what box a specific product goes in, or the price of an item he himself programmed into the register (and routinely changed). In the kitchen, I often spotted him interrupting kitchen staff and ask them to perform tasks to be done by the front staff, and harassing the head baker with more questions he should have been able to answer. For example, on Easter of ‘24, the newly hired baker somehow became the product runner, and I only know it was by his request due to the fact that I overheard the head baker yell at him to leave the new baker alone to do his job. I cannot fault the man on a language barrier, as English is not his first language, however basic communication lacked frequently. He whispers, and when he doesn’t whisper, he yells. I myself had several experiences where he was working the counter with us, would put a cake in front of me while I was working with my own customer, and walk away to help another person while assuming I had heard whatever he needed done. Then, it became my fault for not doing whatever he needed of me- I attempted to explain that he needed to speak louder so that we could hear him, and wait for some kind of verbal or visual address to cue him in that we heard him and he could continue, however this was met with a lecture on how waiting for this wasted time, and that every time he raised his voice we claimed that he was yelling. This issue also arose with policies, where he would make a decision with one group of staff and not state it anywhere in any kind of policy update. I suspect there may be a cultural boundary, though the man may just be plain sexist. The front of house consists of primarily women. The head baker was also a woman. He would routinely ask any of us a question, be dissatisfied with our response, and run to consult one of the male bakers in the back, to which he would receive the same answer or be told to ask whoever he had just consulted with. He has also belittled the head baker on multiple occasions following negative customer encounters with custom cakes. It is because of him, not the customer, that the shop will no longer be accepting fondant or other elaborate cake orders. There are a myriad of other issues with this gentleman which I could address but I’ll leave it with this: Hafiz lacks general knowledge of how his business has successfully operated in the past, should be operating now, and poorly continues to operate. I worked for the previous owner, who was not there nearly as often and commanded more authority, respect, and had more knowledge than he.
