Marty Walz views employers and employees as having an adversarial relationship. For her, setting goals is not about employee development; it is about holding staff over the fire and extracting maximum output in deteriorating conditions. As a consultant, she frequently billed the client for hours spent working on other clients' assignments. As an interim executive, she oversaw the largest staff exodus I have ever seen at a non-profit. As a supervisor, she tends to reject expert opinions from knowledgeable staff in fields with which she is unfamiliar, preferring to make arbitrary and capricious decisions. Working with ncontractors, her efforts were oriented towards cheating them out of pay rahter than developing long-term working relationships. She charges maximum dollar for minimum work, operating her consultancy as a means of draining nonprofits' capital while delivering zero long-term security or structure.
