Daniel has a sweet demeanor and a silver tongue - he says all the right things and appears very empathetic and caring. However, in reality, he is interested in avoiding accountability or responsibility for decisions or for people who work under him, and their concerns. He presided under all of our African American colleagues leaving and when asked to focus on bringing back diversity, he just didn't think it was important. Many designers left during my 5 years working for him and they told me that they were deeply disappointed by not getting opportunities to have more autonomy or advance, even though they worked hard and were promised as much. So a lot of misleading and lying and ignoring people and their ideas happened with him. I had a really important idea and he encouraged me to pursue working on it "side of desk" for 3 years, only to ignore it later on and basically block it, even though it would have helped the team and the company a lot to do better work. He just didn't want to be bothered with good ideas and didn't care about good work or good people. He led an effort that ended up in complete failure - redesigning a core interface, and was promoted afterwards, because the problems didn't start to surface until a few years later. No accountability at Capital One - they only promote people who speak well and who are silver-tongued like Daniel.
