This person is an overbearing, insufferable, abusive, aggressive, impatient, boorish, sadistic, bullying narcissist; who is maladjusted and prone to unpredictable mood swings. By FAR, the worst line manager I’ve ever had the misfortune of being answerable to. You’re forewarned at interview, by the Manager’s own admission, that they’re… “direct”. No, – You’re RUDE. I’ve never seen a team of people be consistently spoken to in such an abysmal, unacceptable manner within a professional setting. Swearing, put downs, passive aggressive, sexist remarks. Makes jokes in very poor taste about staff AND customers. When you say something unwelcome, expect an obstinate, argumentative response, with the speaker deliberately raising their voice to talk over yours so you can’t get a word in edge ways. When dealing with a client over the phone, expect their tactless booming in the background, berating you or another team member for some ridiculous reason. When a client is in branch, expect to hear their judgemental statements about the customer’s lending prospects through the razor thin walls of the loan close booth. Staff members personal lives and confidential information is broadcast throughout the office in their absence without their permission ALL the time! I know it sounds like I’m piling it on, but I promise the above is ALL TRUE. She's painfully insecure, but thinly veils this by constantly reminding anyone in earshot how much experience she has in the company, and how much she knows. DOES NOT like ever being challenged, yet will tell you that different viewpoints and opinions are welcome (they AREN’T). Interaction between staff members is discouraged/encouraged based on her mood. If you’re engrossed in work but she wants a distraction, you’ll be bothered until you give a response. But, if she's stressed and wants to focus, heaven help you if you have the temerity to make conversation or laugh with other people in the room. Oh, and expect the location of your desk, seat and work area to be changed around at her whim. On her say so, your desk will be moved based on how they want to control the staff dynamic in the office. You’ll be told it’s for a functional reason, but it’s all to keep tabs, and to stop people interacting with each other in a way she can’t control, or doesn’t like. No boundaries. Is overfamiliar and nosy, but poorly masks it by faking being personable. Asks about your personal life and gives unsolicited commentary and advice as if she actually knows and cares about you (she doesn't). Presumes her opinion actually matters to you (it doesn’t and never will). NO, I don’t want you in my business so you can be judgemental about me behind my back. Unlike you - I don’t come to work to get my social needs met, and no, I don’t want to go out after work with you. I’m not your friend and I don’t want to be. Being paid to sit in your presence ALL day is a big ask already, let alone being expected to do MORE of that in my own personal time.
